Self-Managed Time Off
We want to track results, not hours worked. We also believe that vacation is important for everyone’s mental health, creativity, and energy. For these reasons, GlobalVision has a self-managed time-off approach that allows employees to take as much paid time off as they need.
Details
You must take a minimum of 10 business days per year.
If you haven’t taken your annual minimum, GV will schedule your vacation in December 🎄
Anything over 10 days is at your discretion.
We know that we hire ambitious people, but vacation is important for getting great work done. We believe that employees who take the time off they need are more productive and focused when working.
All time-off requests go through BambooHR and require manager approval before time off is taken.
Time off for vacation should be booked 2 weeks in advance to allow the team time to organize the workload.
Time off for sickness or emergencies can be booked the day of.

Logistics
When taking any time off (vacation, sick time, appointment, emergencies, etc.) you need to communicate with your team and follow these steps:
1. Request time off
Request your desired time off through BambooHR.
Don’t forget: Vacation days need to be planned at least 2 weeks in advance, but sick days or emergencies can be taken the day of.

2. Create an out-of-office (OOO) calendar event and decline any relevant meetings

3. Update your Slack status to 🌴 VACATIONING or 🤧 OUT SICK to advise your colleagues of your absence.
If your Slack is synced with Google Calendar, your Slack status will automatically show Out of Office

FAQ
Q: What is the maximum number of days I can take?
We want to sustain a profitable company - not micromanage your time off. We sincerely trust everyone to use this responsibly, so there is no defined maximum.
Did you complete your tasks and get your job done? By taking the time off, are you leaving your team in a bind? Having access to self-manage your time off is not an excuse.
If this is overwhelming, a more concrete answer is that we anticipate employees will take an average of 15 days off in a calendar year. We suggest you try taking this amount of time and see how it reflects your quality of life and workload, then take it from there. Or take 25 days… Just stay committed to sustaining GV as a profitable company! If you take two months off, we may not stay profitable because you individually have a major impact.
Q: What is the maximum length of vacation that can be taken at one time?
Vacations should be limited to a maximum of 2 weeks per request. If you would like to take more than that, please ask HR as well as your manager.
Q: What will BambooHR look like if there isn’t a bank of hours to take time from?
Your time off bank will start at 0 hours and will increase when you take time off, there is no cap to the number of hours that can be taken.
