Training Budget

GlobalVision is dedicated to fostering a robust learning culture that empowers every full-time employee to reach their full potential, enhance job satisfaction, and promote career growth. We reinforce this commitment by offering support for external training opportunities that align with both GlobalVision's operational and strategic objectives, as well as the personal learning goals of our employees.

Guidelines

1. Frequency and Type

  • External training is optional, but we encourage you to sign up for some outside learning every six months (review this with your Manager during bi-yearly assessments)

  • Choose a training that aligns with both your own learning objectives and the goals of the organization. Ideally, it would complement your current position or one of those super cool future responsibilities you are hoping to own 😎

  • Example training types:

    • Virtual conferences

    • Online video courses

    • Certificates

    • Books

    • French Classes

Extra information for French classes

https://www.duolingo.com/ is a great resource to kick off your French learning adventure 🚀

2. Allowance

GlobalVision allows a maximum of $2000 CAD/per year for External Training.

There are so many great free learning resources you should be using too

Additional considerations:

  • Choose the virtual option if the in-person option is not within driving distance. There is no additional expenditure allowance for travel, and we want the full allowance to be allocated to your learning

  • If your training would surpass your yearly budget, it would need specific approval from the board and would be assessed based on the relevance and criticality of the training in your role

  • Must sign up with @globalvision email address

3. Time allocation

You can choose to carry out training during your personal time or as part of working hours, but your manager needs to approve in case you decide to do the training during core working hours.

4. Output

Once you have completed the training, we ask that you share what you’ve learned - This step is mandatory but you can get creative with it!

  • Create a confluence blog post or article

  • Organize a lunch n learn and invite your colleagues

  • Something else creative 🎨

Process

1. Discussions and Approval

Start by discussing these awesome ideas with your Manager directly, during one of your bi-yearly assessments, or 1:1s.

Once that's done, you may follow the Float process for approval and payment.

2. Steps to apply

  • With your Manager’s verbal approval, submit a Spend Request through Float.

  • Indicate all the relevant details including “Training Budget”, the details of the training and the amount you need for your purchase.

  • Once submitted, the request will be sent to be approved by your Manager, as well as HR. The training will be approved if it aligns with your role and if you have not surpassed your yearly budget. If you have surpassed your yearly allotment, approval from the board is required. You will receive a notification when this process is complete and if your request was approved.

  • After that, get your books and materials out, and get ready to do your training!

3. Output

Please complete the confluence blog post, article, or other, within one month of the training. This will help internalize the knowledge and spread the latest learnings across the company 💪
